Hi All, I'm a solutions architect for a digital transformation center in New Orleans. We support a variety of clients across a wide spectrum of industries. Hi everyone! I'm located in Columbus Ohio and I manage software development teams. We are focusing on our DevOps journey and I'm looking forward to learning ways we could improve our team structure to be more effective.
Hello everyone. I manage a traditional “ops” group. Our org is still siloed into dev and ops. I’m interested in learning more about team setup so my folks can be in the best position to move toward a dev ops world.

Hi all, I'm with F5. Apologies in advance because I'm not a practitioner. I work in product marketing. My goal is to learn more about changing team dynamics. I had the great pleasure of spending time with John Willis last week. His answer to my questions on team structure was "put Team Topologies at the top of your booklist." 🙂.

Good morning all. Adding my comments on the book up to Chapter 1. I enjoyed the way the stage is being set: “modern IT organizations must deliver and operate software systems rapidly and safely, while simultaneously growing and adapting to changes and pressures in the business or regulatory environment. Businesses can no longer choose between optimizing for stability and optimizing for speed.” It was great to get introduced to the idea of team cognitive load. I think it is something we all somewhat think about, but it is good to have a way to talk about that. Left me wondering if there is an objective way to find what that load is? PS: This is also a warning: it might be wise to avoid reading the book before going to bed, I know that I had a hard time falling asleep after that with all the thoughts in my head! :)

Hi, everyone. Looking forward to reading the book. Appreciating the extent of research I've already seen through Chapter One and into the next.
I'm the author of Managing the Unmanageable: Rules, Tools, and Insights for Managing Software People and Teams, one of the few books on managing software people and teams. (We could find only 7 when our book was published by Addison-Wesley / Pearson in 2012. In the history of programming! A challenge to convince Pearson to publish. But they're now (Nov/Dec) bringing out a second edition. http://www.ManagingTheUnmanageable.net
I don't blog frequently, but my last was on team size and splitting teams - http://ronlichty.blogspot.com/ - I take interim VP Engineering roles and advise business, product and engineering leaders re their teams, so see a bunch. But my post is experience-based. VERY interested to see where the book goes and how aligned with what I've seen!

Hi. I am an IT Director (former IT Architect) at Azusa Pacific University, and have been experimenting with team-based organizational models, product orientation, DevOps, and Agile for the last 5 years, in my units. Now that we are expanding throughout more of the IT organization, we are facing the practical questions that come from broader adoption: the role of management? Does this work for support and service teams? Isn't some work different? What of project managers? While promoting autonomous teams, how do we keep shared strategy alive? How do we interface teams with macro-prioritization and keep executive leadership able to influence without disrupting teams? What role do Communities of Practice have? All of this within the context of a belief that central IT needs to become a digital transformation partner for the rest of the business. How can we adopt this complementary skills value-stream team approach to IT, and not believe IT should be enabled within every value stream of the business? If so, central IT becomes an IT coach, platform provider, as well as a teacher of this new way of working in teams!
I am an agile and executive coach at Salesforce in San Francisco. I’m currently working with our mobile tech and product teams. I have a strong background in Kanban (I am an AKC and KCP) and continuous delivery. I‘m looking forward to learning about more ways to organize and manage for flow.
