As recommended within the Unicorn Project, I found “A Seat at the Table” by Mark Schwartz really worthwhile reading. His definition of operational debt is a useful balance for the more widely used technical debt.

A set of books that aren't mentioned but are very good are the Gold Mine Trilogy. It starts with "The Gold Mine", then "The Lean Manager" and finishes with "Lead With Respect" I highly recommend these 3 books. They start with a cranky old lean sensei helping a leader with his failing business in the Gold Mine, this leader then buys a factory in France and helps the manager save that factory in "The Lean Manager", then that manager goes on to help the head of an IT company that supplies software to the factories embark on her transformation journey.

I would be interested in knowing how some of you who have conducted book clubs in your workplace have done it. Any tips? Guidelines? Rules? How long should it go for? Etc? I’ve never done it before but would like to start one.

Do any of you in here that have done a book club for TPP have a list of discussion questions that you have used? We are trying to kick off a book club at work and I am looking for some good questions that can spark discussion. I have a few that I have come up with but more would be a great help.
I had a question from a coworker... is it too late for them to sign up for the book club this session?

Maxine is so empathetic. What if your senior devs aren't? A few weeks ago I got an idea to empower two of my devs by creating a new guild of "Coding practices" and making them leaders of this group. I can see that they are very insightful in code reviews and good at diagnosing biggest issues in legacy part of our system, but I am afraid that the way they express their remarks is far from healthy learning culture. I am afraid that if I won't do something about it, the "Coding Practices Guild" will turn into "The Coding Practices Gestapo". And so I refrain from creating the new guild 😞
